Ursula Zabel

Ursula Zabel is a well-known figure in the field of German Shepherd breeding and was a long-time member of the German Shepherd Association (SV). She joined the association in the early 1980s and was deeply committed to the breeding and preservation of the German Shepherd. For decades, she campaigned for the promotion of breeding standards that she believed should prioritize the health and working ability of the German Shepherd.

Zabel and her husband were active in breeding German Shepherds and gained extensive experience in training and evaluating dogs. During her career, she often voiced criticism of existing structures and breeding methods, which she felt were insufficient to ensure the health and quality of the breed. Ursula Zabel resigned from the SV in 2006 after attempting to initiate changes in the association, including the founding of an alternative association.

She is known for her clear stance on inbreeding, the decline in genetic diversity and the need for scientific support in breeding. In lectures, she speaks openly about her experiences and views on breeding German Shepherds, focusing on long-term and sustainable breeding strategies.
